After starting her working life as an electrician, Leah chose to study Zoology and Ecology at James Cook University in pursuit of a career based around understanding and finding solutions to environmental problems. Leah is broadly interested in genetics, ecology, and the processes that shape the natural world. Particularly, she is interested in projects that seek to apply this ecological knowledge to help reduce the impacts of growing human populations on natural resources and ecosystems. Leah currently works as a research assistant for TropWATER. She enjoy being involved in scientific and problem-solving processes and spending time in both the field and the laboratory
