Jasmine Jaffrés

Research Scientist - Climatology

Jasmine is originally from Switzerland and moved to Townsville in 2002. She completed a BSc (Hons) in Marine Science and Paleoclimatology at James Cook University (JCU) in 2005. Jasmine’s PhD project, completed in 2011, dealt with the physical and geochemical characteristics of the Coral Sea. During her time with the Marine Geophysical Laboratory team (2009-2013), Jasmine focussed her research on the wave climate in the southern Great Barrier Reef. Since 2013, she has been an adjunct research fellow at JCU.

Research Interests

Jasmine’s broad research interests include climatology, extreme weather events, hydrology, remote sensing and data quality. She often collaborates with interdisciplinary teams, applying her experience in environmental science, numerical programming and data analysis. Her current research focuses on how various climate patterns influence the frequency and prevalence of extreme weather events such as floods and severe storms. Jasmine is also heavily involved in assessing data quality and making data more easily accessible.
