Mikaela is a Swedish marine ecologist with a background in climate change physiology and tropical ecotoxicology undertaking her PhD through the AIMS@JCU collaborative research program. Mikaela’s research focuses on the effects of petroleum oils on reef building corals and the impacts of tropical environmental conditions on oil toxicity. She is particularly interested in producing high quality data on the sensitivity of tropical corals to petroleum oils for use in Australian water quality guideline development and exploring the combined effects of high temperature, ultraviolet light and oil exposure.
