Diplomatic interest in TropWATER research

For the past 15 years, TropWATER’s Professor Eric Wolanski has developed a collaboration with a Portuguese university which has recently caught the attention of the Australian Ambassador to Portugal, Ms Claire Rochecouste. It was when Prof. Wolanski visited his collaborators Professors Alexandra Teodósio and Flavio Martins at the University of Algarve that the newly appointed ambassador made a special trip for a meeting with the Townsville based researcher.

Professor Wolanski said the ambassador was especially interested in the collaboration between JCU and the University of Algarve which explores larval fish recruitment to estuarine nursery grounds, as well as the water and mud circulation in Torres Strait. Professor Wolanski met with the ambassador for two hours, after which she praised the research output and expressed her intention to promote this collaboration further.
